15F ex SAR no: 2910 Henschel 23933/1938

| This locomotive was the second one built by Henschel in the first batch of pre-war 15Fs. It is hand fired and fitted with a JT (short) tender. It has no vacuum brakes on the loco itself. Based at Germiston depot for most of its working life with SAR it was acquired by Rustenburg Platinum Mines (RPM) in 1993. At that time RPM had a run down fleet of ex SAR 14R and 15CA/B locomotives and was hiring 15F and 15CA locomotives from Spoornet. 2910 saw little service at RPM although it did receive a coat of blue paint.
It carried the number 2910 whilst at Rustenburg. After the RPM system was dieselised 2910 was acquired by Sandstone together with ex SAR 15CB number 2071. It is in reasonable condition but has not seen any service at Sandstone. It is currently stored in the Sandstone facility at Ficksburg. |
