The heart and soul of Sandstone is its 2ft Narrow Gauge railway which runs for nearly 30kms from one end of the farm to the other. We are believed to have the largest collection of 2ft Narrow Gauge locomotives in the world, together with over 300 items of rolling stock. Because of the extensive variety of locomotives, we have split them into two groups. The powerful locomotives like the Garratts operate on the Main Line and our smaller locomotives, originally from the Sugar Cane island mining industries which operate on a smaller scenic line near the complex (Seb’s Railway).
Notwithstanding the fact that the national 3’6” railway runs right through Sandstone Estates, we do not operate on the line due to bureaucratic hurdles. Nonetheless, we do have a very impressive collection of Main Line locomotives which are on display for visitors.
