GMAM ex SAR no: 4088 Beyer Peacock, Manchester 7754/1956 – Information and Galleries

Also acquired from REGM in 1997, 4088 had been set aside while undergoing a major overhaul as REGM number R2. The boiler was in the process of being retubed and a number of the driving wheels and brake gear had been removed as part of the work in progress. Dieselisation of the mine railway meant that all work on the locomotive was stopped. Sadly many of the components removed were scrapped and the locomotive remains in an immovable condition next to the running shed at REGM (now Harmony mine). It is still painted in REGM blue livery.

4088 was one of the last GMA/M units acquired by REGM and was purchased from the Enyati Colliery Railway near Vryheid in Kwa-Zulu Natal in 1992. Enyati having purchased the loco directly from Spoornet in 1988 from storage at Witbank.
