GMAM ex SAR no: 4114 North British, Glasgow 27772/1957 – Information and Galleries

Number 4114 was one of a number of GMA/M locos subcontracted for building to North British in Glasgow by Beyer Peacock when they were unable to fulfil the order in time for the SAR. It is also identified by Beyer Peacock works number 7829.

REGM purchased it from Spoornet in 1988 and it was numbered R5. 4114 had been withdrawn from SAR service and placed in storage at Kroonstad depot but had also worked at Sydenham shed in Port Elizabeth during SAR service.

Number 4114 is stored with its auxiliary water tank at Bloemfontein depot. It is painted black and carries the painted number 4114. Although not in working order it is believed to be in good mechanical condition.
