Scrapers

We recently received the VSSA Newsletter for October 2024 which features an article by Ralph Malan on scrapers used in the building industry where Sandstone features prominently.

The VSSA is the Vernacular Architecture Society of South Africa which is a Cape Town based, voluntary, non-profit organisation that aims to support the study and preservation of vernacular architecture in South Africa. Simply put this is building in indigenous styles, constructed from locally available materials, following traditional building practice and patterns, and not architect-designed.

This interesting article not only features our massive Caterpillar 621 scrapers but also much smaller and simpler machines. It’s a very different subject for our website but very interesting!
